On May 21, the ICITAP-Indonesia mission reported that Indonesia’s Regional Police Metro Jaya had established a dedicated 24-hour anti-street crime and robbery task force operating throughout the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area to combat rising incidents of violent street crime and strengthen public security. The joint initiative integrates personnel from sub-district police offices, district police offices, and the General Crime Investigation Directorate of Metro Jaya, deploying intelligence-led and directed enforcement policing strategies to high-crime areas in order to improve preventive patrols, accelerate response times, and enhance operational coordination against robbery and other violent offenses. Since its establishment, the task force has successfully solved six street robbery cases and contributed to broader law enforcement operations that, throughout 2026, have resulted in the resolution of 171 theft-related investigations and the arrest of 103 suspects. ICITAP has played a significant role in strengthening the Indonesian National Police’s preventive policing capabilities through sustained mentoring, operational guidance, and specialized training focused on intelligence-led policing, community-oriented policing, and proactive patrol methodologies. In partnership with the Indonesian National Police Training and Education Institute, ICITAP conducted the second Train-the-Trainers Program on the New Paradigm Patrol model in January 2026, bringing together 28 participants from 14 police academies and training institutions across Indonesia, including representatives from the Metro Jaya Basic Police School. The program was specifically designed to develop master instructors capable of institutionalizing standardized patrol practices, transferring operational knowledge and professional policing values, and strengthening nationwide patrol effectiveness through modern community-focused policing approaches. ICITAP’s support has directly contributed to Indonesia’s efforts to professionalize police operations, improve public trust, and strengthen law enforcement responses to organized and violent criminal activity in one of the world’s most strategically significant regions. Enhancing Indonesia’s capacity to address urban crime, maintain public order, and implement intelligence-driven policing advances United States national security interests by promoting regional stability, strengthening a critical international partner, and helping safeguard American citizens, businesses, and economic interests abroad, with support from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Counterterrorism (CT).
