Federal news policy
How EZ News presents official U.S. Department of Justice material accurately, independently, and with appropriate rights safeguards.
What this desk publishes
The Federal Justice Desk retrieves official DOJ press releases and Justice Blog entries through the public DOJ News API. The local federal view prioritizes releases whose official URL identifies a U.S. Attorney office in the selected state. It is a state-level match, not a claim that every story occurred in the selected city. When too few state matches are available, cards labeled as national DOJ releases fill the view. Each record remains labeled as official government source material and is not described as independent EZ News reporting.
Text reuse and attribution
DOJ states that, unless otherwise indicated, information on its websites is in the public domain and may be copied and distributed without permission; source citation is appreciated. EZ News visibly identifies the U.S. Department of Justice as the source on listings and article pages.
How source images are handled
When the DOJ API supplies an official media identifier and useful alt text, EZ News may display that image from the official justice.gov media service with a visible DOJ source label. Obvious seals, logos, insignia, witness or courtesy photos, externally credited or copyrighted material, linked documents, and attachments are not republished. Some source media may therefore remain omitted even when one approved image is shown. Links and active markup in upstream article text are removed before display.
Text integrity
Official article wording and legal qualifiers are presented without editorial rewriting. Formatting is converted to safe text blocks, so visual styling may differ while the words remain intact. If EZ News later adds a summary, analysis, correction, or editor’s note, it will be visibly separated and labeled.
Allegations, accuracy, and legal advice
Charges and allegations do not establish guilt; defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. DOJ material is presented for general information and is not legal advice. Source updates may replace cached copies after the next refresh.
Independence and endorsement
EZ News and EzBuyCo are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Justice or any DOJ component. Source identification does not imply sponsorship, authorization, or government approval of EZ News.
Technical safeguards
The browser calls only EZ News. A server-side adapter validates DOJ URLs, limits response size, escapes and normalizes content, caches requests, and can serve a clearly identified stale copy during a short source outage. No DOJ or FBI API credential is exposed in the website.
Other desks
Federal justice content and National Weather Service content are stored and labeled separately. Read the weather source policy for NWS-specific handling.
