The sentence was announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. U.S. Attorney Heekin said: “This local drug trafficking ring has been dismantled thanks to the excellent investigative work of our state and federal law enforcement partners and this successful prosecution by my office. Our citizens deserve safe, drug-free streets, and my office will continue to aggressively prosecute anyone caught peddling deadly narcotics in this district to ensure we deliver on that promise.” Court documents reflect that in July 2025, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Leon County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding the trafficking of cocaine in Leon County. Through investigation, law enforcement identified Edward Lee Cromartie and Griffin as a source of supply for cocaine and methamphetamine. Law enforcement also identified a suspected drug stash location, and upon execution of a federal search warrant at a storage unit shared by Cromartie and Griffin, seized approximately 1.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, along with multiple firearms, including a stolen handgun. In March 2026, Cromartie was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for his role in the drug trafficking conspiracy, distribution, and possession with intent to distribute charges.
“Dealers of Methamphetamine in North Florida should know DEA is coming for you,” said Special Agent in Charge Daniel Escobar, Tampa Field Division. “Our agents will bring criminals who distribute this poison in our communities to justice.”
The case involved a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Leon County Sheriff’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Eric K. Mountin.
