Gainesville, Florida – Roosevelt Allen Douglas II, 46, of Hawthorne, pleaded guilty in federal court to accessing with intent to view child pornography, receipt or attempted receipt of child pornography, and possession of child pornography. John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, announced the plea today.

U.S. Attorney Heekin said: “Our law enforcement partners are relentless in their pursuit of predators using the internet to access and transmit child sexual abuse material, and my office will continue to aggressively prosecute these cases to ensure those criminals are kept locked away behind federal bars.” Court documents reflect that on April 24, 2023, the defendant used his laptop to access a website that displayed child pornography for sale. After the defendant “previewed” the child pornography on the website, he sent money to an individual that was engaged in the business of receiving and laundering money for a child pornography distribution enterprise. After learning that the defendant had attempted to purchase child pornography on other occasions, law enforcement searched the defendant’s electronic devices, which contained multiple images of child sex abuse material. Due to a prior conviction relating to sexual abuse or abusive sexual conduct involving a minor, Douglas faces 15 to 80 years’ imprisonment and up to life on supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled before United States Chief District Judge Allen C. Winsor, in Gainesville, Florida on December 8, 2026, at 1:30PM.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Alachua County Sherriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Adam Hapner is prosecuting the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys' Offices and CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
