BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced today that Dilbar Gul Dilbar a/k/a Dilbar Gul Taj Ali Khan, a citizen of Afghanistan, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. to Visa fraud. He was then sentenced to serve six months in prison. Dilbar is a citizen and national of Afghanistan. In November 2017, he paid someone to compile and submit an Afghan Special Immigrant Visa Application to the United States on his behalf. Dilbar was aware that the person he had paid submitted a false and fraudulent approval letter from the Chief of Mission in the US Embassy Kabul, but he swore and affirmed that the evidence submitted was true and correct.

In October 2021, Dilbar paid another individual to compile and submit a second Special Immigrant Visa Application to the United States. Once again, Dilbar swore and affirmed that the evidence submitted was true and correct when, in fact, he was aware of a high probability that the evidence submitted contained at least one false representation. As a result of the false representations, in April 2024, Dilbar was granted a Special Immigrant Visa, admitted to the United States, issued lawful permanent residency status, and permitted to reside in the Western District of New York. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan K. McGuire. The plea and sentencing are the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Allen D. Davis, II.# # # #
